Lcd Or Plasma Tv -- Which Is Right For You?

By:

Those of us who are armchair quarterbacks continue the debate over which one is better, LCD or Plasma, ever since they came onto the market. Nowadays there's more known, some of it common knowledge now about the pros and cons of both.

To begin the argument for a plasma TV if you just require the very best picture then the plasma is the winner in that department. Is the search over now? Not really, because there are more considerations than that in the real world. Since the next consideration is size it's important to note that the plasma really doesn't come in a small size, the smallest is 32 inches, so having it in a bedroom or some other small space won't work. But if it's really important you can still have the plasma but you just need to be aware of the size and where it will be placed in the room.

Making the choice of an LCD will present with a bit lesser picture clarity than the plasma, but there are other positive qualities for it. If you are very eco minded you will appreciate the fact that an LCD is a bit more energy efficient than a plasma screen. It will consume about 80 watts less per hour than a same sized plasma which isn't alot but if you like to consider every small watt then this may be a selling feature for you.

Another benefit for the LCD screen is the fact that it's not susceptible to something called burn in, and plasma does have this issue. This happens when a plasma screen is left on one channel or holds one frame for too long of a time period. The picture or logo will burn into the picture screen and mess up the gorgeous picture. Computers would do this but that's why they have screen savers; but it really shouldn't be an issue with the plasma unless you only watch one channel all throughout the day.

There's one final comparison that has been thus far overlooked -- price. Strictly speaking, a plasma is cheaper per square inch. The difference isn't huge, but over time the additional electricity for a plasma could conceivably close the price gap, but that's something that will depend on the price of the television.
