Laser Eye Surgery Price - How To Avoid Unnecessary Shock!

The price of laser eye surgery has risen rapidly during the past few years but latest figures suggest it has steadied during the past 12 months.

Remember, quoting price is just for work on one eye and in 2002, the average price was about $1500. This has increased each year and in 2007, the price is averaging about $2000 per eye.

During the past 12 months, the price of laser eye surgery has risen but only minimally. New procedures and technology has played a major role in advancing it's benefits and while pricing has been on the up, it's hard to argue that this correlates with new and improved techniques.

Advertising Caution

If you are considering Lasik, you may be tempted by the apparent bargains being advertised, some as low as $500 however, be careful to check thoroughly what's involved with these procedures.

The low prices advertised are usually just a starting point and not everyone will be eligible to take advantage of them. Certain factors can have a dramatic effect on the overall cost. There will, in most cases, be extras involved and these are things you need to discuss with your surgeon during the consultation stage.

Price Of Laser Eye Surgery

There have been a number of new procedures introduced and this again is a big factor in the overall cost. Testing before surgery is very much recommended and anyone not going through some type of pre-operative testing would be putting themselves at risk.

With testing though, comes increased cost in most cases and while a procedure is advertised at what appears to be a great price, by the time the the patient has gone from the initial consultation, the testing and then the actual procedure, the amount quoted on the bill is going to look a lot different than the original price which attracted their attention in the first place.

There's nothing worse than getting a big bill when you're not expecting it. You can avoid this situation by simply asking some straightforward questions to your surgeon.

This is a shortlist of questions you should be asking before you even get to the testing stage:

- Exactly what are you getting for the price advertised?

- Establish what's not involved in the actual price.

- What are the extras and how much will they cost?

_ Why are the extras needed? Will it be risky for you if you take shortcuts?

- How many follow up visits will be required and what type of medication is needed after the procedure?

- Is it expensive?

You can basically double the price after your final quote if you intend getting both eyes worked on. Laser eye surgery price is quoted per eye so be careful not to be confused about this during your consultation.
