Largest Bird In The World Ostrich And Its Amazing Activities

By:

As we all know Ostrich is the national bird of Australia. In fact it is the largest bird; however it is a flightless bird. A large number of Ostriches are found I the Savanna deserts in Africa and these eat plants and get most of the water from it. These birds are really huge and have very long legs. This makes them very fast runners and can sprint up to 43 miles an hour that makes up to seventy kilometers an hour. They have huge wings known as 'rudders' which help them to change their directions while running. The bird's legs are not only huge but also very strong. It is said that the ostrich kicks are so strong that it can even kill a human or a potential predator like the lion. It has only two-toes on its foot and a very strong beak. When in wild these ostriches live in small herds which are less in 10 numbers. The Alpha-males maintain these herds and often mates with the group's dominant hen. The other male's mate with the others in the group and wandering males mates with the lesser hens. The most interesting thing is that all the hens in the group lay their eggs in the dominant hens nest.

The dominant hen and the male take turns incubating the giant eggs and the weight of one ostrich egg is equal to two dozen chicken eggs. The Ostrich has a very close association with the humans. If we go to Arizona during the month of March we will really find the close association with the ostriches. In March People of Arizona in the United States celebrate the annual Ostrich Festival. This festival is considered as the top 10 unique festivals in the United States. You will find Lanky Ostriches, multiple entertainment bands and many special gift and food vendors. The Ostrich Festival Parade is a spectacular event that needs to we watched during this time. This parade is generally held on the Saturday, so that many people can take part in the event.

During this time there are several races that are held and are celebrated for three days. The Entertainment part is something very amusing and is considered a spectacular event. The Festival features Ostrich Races, an Exotic Petting Zoo, Pig Races, a Sea Lion Show, a Hot Rod Show, Amateur Boxing, a Thrill Circus, Jest in Time Family Circus, Medieval Jousting, an additional live ostrich display and three stages of live entertainment and a lot of other programs included. There are music concerts during this time and people can watch a lot of things which are really entertaining.

Have you heard something about the Ostrich race? Just like we see horse races, the extreme racing categories include Ostrich racing as well. In this race we find people riding on an Ostrich back. These kinds are mainly found in South Africa. One of the places you can find Ostrich is the Oudtshoorn which is South Africa. If you visit this place you can find large flocks of Ostriches at different stages of their development. These Ostriches are generally kept in free environment, unlike putting them in a cage and fitting Alarm systems like the ADT Alarm System in our homes.

The most interesting part is that you can feed these birds with your own hands and cuddle with the chicks as well. Not only this, with help of guides you will also get to ride on an Ostrich and have a very good fun. We have heard stories about Ostrich being foolish bird when it has to hide itself. This striking comedy makes everyone remember ostrich. It hides only its head and leaves the whole of its body out thinking that the enemy cannot see it. Today, man has developed a lot on this idea of an Ostrich Pillow where you can insert your head inside and sleep comfortably in your office or at your desk.
