Wooden floors have definitely been the best in business and catered to both the needs. They do not only give a sophisticated look but at the same time, they also simply go along with almost any kind of interior and not to forget, the wood floors are capable of making the house warm and cozy.

However, using solid wood or engineered hardwood can be a very expensive affair and it can be out of budget for many. There is however, a cheap alternative available and that is none other than the laminate flooring. It was manufacturer Pergo who brought in the concept of laminate floors. The concept just became so popular that the flooring time is often referred to as the Pergo flooring. This type of flooring was just restricted to Europe in its initial years but when it was imported to America, it again turned out to be an instant hit. This happened simply because of the quality and affordability.

How is laminate flooring made?
Laminate flooring is a typical method of manufacturing. The object to be depicted is photographed and then the images are transferred on the tiles. This gives remarkable resemblance of the tiles to the actual objects. Different types of styles available are bevy, stone, marble, granite, hardwood etc.

What makes these flooring more popular than hardwood is that these title are extremely durable. The tiles are coated with aluminum oxide which prevents dents, nicks and scratches which are generally found in wooden floors. However, this never means that the flooring is foolproof. Owners need to be careful with heavy weight, chairs etc. It is therefore advised to people to make sure that they use some kind of soft padding beneath the chairs and other furniture to keep the floor protected. With proper care, these floors can last for years.

The laminate flooring does not require any kind of refinishing as well as occasional scraping. There are different varieties of these floors available in the market. Some of the varieties come pre-treated with some water-resistant chemicals which ensure that the floors are not damaged by water. However, as before, nothing is everlasting and hence, treating with water resistant chemical never means that the floors become foolproof and cannot be affected by water. Proper caution must be taken before installing the tiles in areas of constant moisture like bathroom and kitchen.

Laminate flooring comes with a system called click-lock. This system allows installing the floor as a floating floor. This eliminates the need of using messy glue and nails. It is always suggested to go for professional installation but this can also be done as a DIY project during the weekend. This is possible because the laminate flooring comes as prefinished flooring and any additional grouting or staining is not needed.
