LVM Damage in HP-UX

By: Allen Sood

For the operating systems like HP-UX, LVM (Logical Volume Manager) acts like a subsystem which manages the hard drive space. This avails a way for allocating the hard drive space into logical volumes that can be easily resized. This is available for other operating systems too but for HP-Unix, some added features are there like mirroring, high availability through the ServiceGuard and striping.

With LVM you can resize volume groups, create snapshots of logical volumes, mirror whole or parts of logical volumes, merge volume groups and lots many through the use of set of commands. This system comprises of arbitrary groupings of physical volumes which are then organized into volume groups. This volume group then acts as the basic unit of data storage. These volume groups are then subdivided into virtual disks, called logical volumes.

But due to several reasons this has been observed that this LVM configuration gets corrupted. The LVM data structures can get lost. The current implementation does not support write barriers and so the vulnerabilities leading to data loss gets attached to this. Naming the multiple disks can also corrupt this configuration. You may get any of the following error messages:

"VGRA appears to be corrupted"

"LVM: PV 1 has been returned to vg[0]"

"vgimport −vp /dev/vg00 /dev/dsk/c2t1d0s2

Beginning the import process on Volume Group "/dev/vg00".

Volume group "/dev/vg00" is still active."

These are the cases when you need HP UX data recovery. The LVM corruption can render your data out of your access and thus the data retrieval is mandatory. The data is the key term for any organization. No user can deny from the importance of data and thus HP UX recovery through the reliable toole is the need of hour.

This job can be achieved through HP UX data recovery software. These software make a thorough scan of the affected hard drive and recover the valuable data from it.

HP Unix data recovery is the task which needs to be handle with great expertise and through the use of the best and powerful algorithms, therefore an unreliable HP Unix recovery tool is not recommended. Make the wise decision while choosing the one.

Stellar Phoenix HP UNIX Data Recovery Software is the key software fulfilling all type of HP UX recovery needs. This software firstly analyze whole of the hard drive and then builds a tree format of the files which can be recovered. After this HP Unix recovery is performed. This software avails you the option of the selective HP UX data recovery.

This HP Unix data recovery software can be used for the file systems like JFS 3.0, 3.1 and 3.3 and is found to be compatible with the file versions like HP-UX 10.x, 11 and 11i. The interactive user interface of the software allows you to have easy HP UX recovery
