Kutcher: The New Face For Satellite Tvs Most Popular Sitcom

By:

For seven years, Charlie Sheen featured on HD televisions throughout the world as the morally dubious, but likable, lead in CBSs Two and Half Men. Sheens departure from the show has seen CBS tailspin in an effort to find a replacement for what can only be seen as the crux of the comedy. The announcement of Ashton Kutcher as the new addition has raised many eyebrows amongst the shows viewership.

Kutchers role in the show is still undetermined, but how the fresh faced 33year old will fill the lacuna left by the 45 year old Sheen is unclear. Sheen held the show together with a charismatic nonchalance that rendered his misogyny forgivable. Sheen became the guy that every male satellite TV owner wanted to be. If Kutcher attempts to emulate the role that Sheen slotted into so uncomfortably, it will probably be met with disapproval from critics and fans alike. If the viewership of the show is to be maintained, Kutcher will have to mold an original character which is not dependent on the comedic success of Sheen.

Kutchers credentials as an entertainer are unquestionable. He shot to fame as the dopey Michael Kelso in That 70s Show and he has since forged a career as producer and actor in Hollywood. Kutcher has been a familiar face on satellite TV shows for years and the demands of the show shouldnt prove too much of a challenge for him.

The problem, however, is that Two and Half Men was entirely dependent on Sheen. Jon Cryers character, Alan, is only capable of generating awkward laughs which result from being Charlies foil. The removal of Charlie from the show kills the comedic potential of Alan as an uptight chiropractor. Kutchers role will have to accommodate all supporting characters because they once played off Charlie.

The face of Charlie Sheen on the screens of high definition TV sets will be missed mostly because of his sharp wit. The writers at Two and Half Men are undoubtedly talented, but the challenge of fitting Ashton Kutcher into role designed for someone much older will prove difficult. The thing that made Sheen popular was that he was living as a twenty-five year old when he was nearing fifty. Kutcher only looks 23 at most, so the fantasy of a middle-aged guy living the dream is lost.

It will be interesting to see if Kutcher is capable of perpetuating the success of one of satellite TVs most popular shows. The challenge for Kutcher will be in relying on his acting ability rather than his looks. Sheens character was premised on charisma which was derived from an understated self-assuredness that he was the coolest guy on HD TV. Kutcher has huge expectations to live up to and critics are already speculating on his likelihood to fail.

CBS has announced that Ashton Kutcher will replace Charlie Sheen on its hit show.
