In casino games there is some edge that could win you some money and it is nothing less than a truth. However, for roulette which is designed with some in-built edge for the casinos it would be very difficult to win by a player as the odds for winning against the casino in the roulette is very thin. There are some players who could win and some who loose but overall it is win-win situation for the casino. The whole scenario of the casino games is same as that of insurance companies where the insurance premiums might slip out of the company’s hand few times but the edge is always in favor of the company and at the end of the day the collection of premiums is always more than for the company than they has to pay out to the customers.

The earnings for a casino is calculated by an equation by which the individual bets even out the long term earnings. The equation is-

Casino profit= (Total bets of all players) x (House Edge)

There is absolutely no memory for the roulette balls and dice. Also the current and past spins are independent of each other and they have no relation between each other. In addition to this the house edge makes it very difficult to win for the player. As there is no specific data to rely on in the first place, roulette system could not work. As a result, in a longer term of playing the house edge became closure to the ratio of money lost to money bet. The player who wins in short or long term is purely due to chance.

Progression system in such games is based on belief that this equation could be beaten. However, this is just to ignore the truth and try to get bets as per the set equation to get house edge in favor of the player. There are two types of progression system in the roulette, negative and positive progression.

In negative progression wagers are raised after losing the bet. The logic in such betting system is to increase the frequency of winning sessions assuming that the player could win in almost every session. But the loosing sessions could be very expansive for the player. Martingale system is one such negative progression. The basic aim for such system is to give the casino a protective shield though the player could lose overtime anyway by means of restricting the number of consecutive bets.

The basic aim of the positive progression is to win on the profit ride. Here they assume once the player wins, they will gamble more aggressively in order to win more. Here the odds are against the player and he has to win in almost every time. The more the player plays the chances of loosing increases and hence it is irrelevant to play like this for just one win. This proves that a casino could not lose in longer time while the player could win only by chance.
