Knowing When Baby Needs Immediate Help

Knowing When Baby Needs Immediate Help

By:

Urgent care needs can sometimes be hard to determine, especially with a baby. If you are facing a situation in which your young child may or may not need to see a doctor, it is best to call just in case. In other cases, it may be best to call 911 and not waste time. However, every parent will go through stages where they just do not know what to do. It is in these situations where it could be something that needs help or it might not be that parents have to guess what to do.

Getting Help Sooner Rather Than Later

If you have a young child, making the decision to take your child to the urgent care can be a challenge but there are some tips that can help you. Of course, it is always better to err on the side of caution and just take your child in, however, the following are some instances when you definitely should do so.

*If your child needs immediate medical help, due to blood loss, inability to breathe or is not conscious, contact local emergency services right away. This is the best route to take to overcome any limitations you may be facing.

*In situations where your child has a fever that is not responding to medications, or does not dissipate over time, consider taking a child in. A fever is the body's way of fighting infection and it becomes incredibly important to ensure that fever remains as low as possible. Antibiotics or other treatments may help to stop the fever and get rid of the underlying cause of it.

*An urgent care facility can help with broken bones or sprains, too. It is never a good idea to focus on getting this type of care later. Rather, it is best to get your child's injury taken care of right away. Anytime the skin is bruising significantly or a limb cannot be bent as it should be, this may mean a muscle tear occurred or there is a broken bone. In both situations, the child needs to see a doctor right away.

*In situations of head trauma, it is a good idea to bring the child in. This is especially important in situations when the child is not speaking properly or in a baby, when the child does not seem to be as active or alert as normal.

*If you have a child that has an illness that has not gone away over a period of time, it's time to get help. It is a good idea to contact an urgent care center as soon as the child needs help, but it can also be vitally important to do so if the condition worsens or the child's illness does not go away within a few days.

Getting help for your child is something to do as soon as you know there is a problem. An urgent care specialist can help you. Take the time to know where the local urgent care is and find out when your child's doctor wants him or her seen.
