Knowing The Basics Of Fly Fishing

By:

Although there are a lot of people who have been fly fishing for hundreds of years, there are still some who have no idea what this is all about. So let us start with the basic what exactly is fly fishing? Well, fly fishing is one of the different kinds of fishing which uses an artificial fly. It is basically different from the normal or traditional way of fishing because fly anglers are casting a hook that has some form of fur, feather, yarn, foam or any other object that is similar to the thing called fly that is being attached to the thread as a form of bait. There are also different kinds of fly fishing schools where people can enroll and attend in order to learn new things and techniques about fly fishing.

The most common method of fly fishing is the dry fly fishing. In this classic method, anglers (or fishermen) will be using an artificial fly which will be casted off and then float in water. The fly will then pass over the fish and the fish will eventually rise up and bite it. So basically, the fisherman will try to control the attempt of the fish to escape by tiring it and then retrieve the fish from the water using a landing net. A lot of anglers would prefer to use this kind of fly fishing method because it is a lot easier and everything can be seen from how the angler cast at a fish until how the fish takes the fly. However, there is also a disadvantage in using this method. If you are going to do the dry fly fishing method, chances are, you wont be able to catch larger fishes as well as fishes that feed underwater such as trout. And if truth be told, about 90% of fishes feed underwater.

If you are not so sure about doing the classic method of dry fly fishing, you can use the other method which is the nymph fishing. The hatched eggs of the flies are called nymphs and it usually hatches at the surface of a river or lake. Once the eggs hatched, they will eventually turn into a fly. So using the nymph method utilizes imitations of the actual nymphs that are about to hatch and weighted to just stay below the surface of the water. People are not really fond of using this method because this is more challenging due to the actions being placed just beneath the waters surface.
