Know More About Permanent Magnet Dc Motors

By:

The lighter, efficient and more reliable form of dc motors are permanent magnet dc motor build from high intensity permanent magnets like neodymium magnets also used in developing high power motors without using field coils.

Electric motor is what turns electricity into motion via exploiting electromagnetic induction. All motors use electromagnetic field to create torque and are used as per application. Michael Faraday is the one who proposed and proved that electricity can be generated from magnetism. There are usually two kinds of motors- Ac and Dc motors.

The permanent magnet dc motor can be of several kinds:

Stepper motor: the shaft of stepper motor moves between discrete positions which is proportional to pulses where the inputs of a stepper are signal pulses. Where the load of the motor is not so much and the open loop control is used to control motor. The uses include disk drive head positioning, plotters and numerous other applications.

Servo motors: the output shaft of the servo motor is commanded to particular angular position to the input voltage these permanent magnet dc motors are used in radio control airplanes where positions are controlled with wing flaps and similar devices.

DC motors: the input is current voltage and the output is torque.

Brush-less motors: there are permanent magnets on the outside and spinning armature on the inside. The permanent as the word says are stationary, so they are called stator and the latter is known as rotor as it rotates.

Advantages:

Designs are easy to understand

Speed control is easy

Cheap drive

Lower manufacturing costs

Less noisy and higher in efficiency

Cost, variety and afford ability in choice of application with permanent magnet dc motors involve fractional horsepower having the ability to get increased up to 3 horsepower. The universal magnet law is that similar poles repel and opposites attract each other. And the dc motors also work on the same principle.

The repelling motors cause it to rotate and speed is controlled from 1RPM to 500RPM or depending on the magnets capacity. Or simple it can be controlled through changing the supply of the voltage or through effective resistance of the armature circuit. Dc motors are simple to make and requires only a battery or dc supply to run.
