Many festivals are celebrated in Jodhpur, out of which kite festival is very famous. It is known as the biggest crowd puller. The kite festival of Jodhpur is one such festival which fills the atmosphere with lots of excitement and exhilaration. To see the crowd of people who gather to become a part of this unique festival is a spectacle to behold.

During this popular festival, the sky gets filled up with colourful kites of different designs and shapes. Participants enjoy a healthy competition with great enthusiasm.

Time of Celebration
The much awaited kite festival of Jodhpur is celebrated on 14th of January, the day which is celebrated in India as Makar Sankranti. A lot of excitement can be seen during this festival. The festival lasts for three days. This grand festival is celebrated at the huge Polo Ground in Jodhpur.
Different kite flyers come to take part in this exciting competition.

Activities
This three days festival is celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm. A grand extravaganza follows in this fair. Air force helicopters also release kites from the sky. Along with it, many schoolchildren seem releasing the balloons. All these create a beautiful scene altogether which fills the atmosphere with excitement and fun.

The festival is celebrated in two sections. One is the competition of Fighter Kite and another is Display Flying. There are also some trophies to be won in both categories. In the evening, dinner is provided to the participants at an exotic location.

On the final day of the festival, the venue shifts to the beautiful lawns of the Umaid Bhawan Palace. This grade palace is the royal residence of the Maharaja of Jodhpur. The finals of both competitions take place here. The judging is followed by the prize distribution ceremony. A farewell dinner is also organized with the Maharajas.

There are also many cultural programs like singing and dancing that take place during this festival.
