Kitchen - Remodeling

Updating or remodeling your kitchen requires a lot of planning and our kitchen-design team can work with you for best results. Do not rush out and begin purchasing different items, such as appliances because they look quite elegant and beautiful in the store. Then, you may see another item that you think would fit into your kitchen perfectly. The best way to end up with everything fitting in with all the other changes you plan to make is to sit down and figure out how each piece will coincide with the rest.

We can help you with this planning and possibly have it all worked out within one to two days. Next, you should sit down with your family and go over the written plan and discuss your ideas and possibly the different costs for what you want to do. Think about the plans you have for a few days or at least one week and if you and your family agree, you should be ready to go and begin looking for, and pricing the items you will need to get started.

The biggest investment in remodeling a kitchen is generally the cabinetry. There are three kinds of cabinets - Stock, or in-stock, meaning off-the-shelf. These cabinets are usually from a dealer or distributor's inventory stock. Special requests such as additions or sizing are not available and they are priced moderately. Another category is called semi custom, which are factory made and are available in a variety of sizes, designs and finishes and are mid-range priced. Custom cabinets are also factory made and often made to your specifications in local cabinet shops. The factory-made cabinets can be specifically made to fit your kitchen and are high priced. The local shop prices can vary greatly in conjunction with your choice of selection and style

Earth tones are popular especially for counter tops and sinks. Sinks can be finished in a variety of colors and materials such as honed stone, porcelain, stainless steel, soapstone and granite. Counter tops are becoming popular in various stone finishes with marble often being the first choice. These stone finishes tend to exude a more gentle effect. Manufacturers of plastic laminate also offer an annual vibrant assortment of color and figurative mode patterns.

Flooring is available in limestone tiles from India and other countries, plus they are available in a large array of lovely earthy tones. Hardwoods in a wide variety of stains and species offer you, the homeowner, more options for contrast and hue. From large tiles to mosaics, color can be a neutral feature, give a touch of color or restate a color theme.

Lighting should follow with three types of light, which are, ambient light that illuminates the entire room, work-area lighting should be concentrated in the food preparation area and accent lighting, which provides light for decorative items such as a painting, dish or figurine display, or an area for eating. These lights are often hanging or recessed.
