Keeping Your Camping Trips Safe

By:

Camping is one of the most enjoyable activities that a family or a group of friends can enjoy. In our normal day to day lives there is often hardly a moment to spare. No one gets more than one or two free hours a day. Camping therefore, gives everyone the chance to leave their worries behind, get back to nature, and enjoy the great outdoors.

Though camping is a fun activity for both young and old, it is not without its risks and hazards. Not taking the necessary supplies such as clean sleeping bags, a comfortable backpack and enough food can prove to be dangerous. There are certain do's and don'ts that have to be observed.

Always have plenty of mosquito and insect repellant at hand. Some of the insects that inhabit camping areas can have a pretty nasty bite that might cause an infection or fever. Even though you will be inside your sleeping bag and sealed camping tents at night, you still need to be careful. Carry medication that you might need in case someone should fall ill. Most common drugs are over the counter. It is essential to carry some basic pain and fever medication, something for an upset stomach, ointments for aches and sprains. It wouldn't be a bad idea to include some cough and cold medicine as well. You never know what kind of weather you might encounter at the campsite.

Going hiking and trekking is the fun part of camping but be sure to carry your backpacks with you whenever you get out there. The backpacks should contain all the necessary camping supplies, like your mosquito repellant, clean drinking water, some food to keep your energy up, a flash light , some rope, and of course a first aid kit.

Cooking is generally done over an open fire when you're out camping. When youre done cooking your meals, always make sure that the fire is put out completely. Even the tiniest spark might flare up the fire again. Fires can be pretty destructive in forest areas causing loss of animal and plant life, as well as devastation of vegetation. Never, ever leave out leftover food outside. There are dangerous, wild animals that live near most camping areas and the smell of food might attract them to the camp site.

When out hiking or trekking its always best to avoid exploring new or unused treks. You might end up lost or hurt. Stick to areas that are frequented by other hikers and whatever you do, hold on to those backpacks. If you get injured or hurt, dont stray away from the path. Someone will eventually find you. Watch out for snakes and other dangerous wildlife. Always travel in groups; never alone. In the event of a mishap, your companion can get you back to the campsite safe and sound.
