Keeping The Swine Flu At Bay In Australia

Considering the threat of nearly 40% of Australia's population coming down with the Swine Flu, it's not surprising that people around the country are working diligently to ward it off. Between vaccinations and quarantines, Australians are doing everything they can to contain this worrisome disease.

Worldwide Scope Of The Swine Flu -

According to MSNBC (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30485593/), Australia ranks number four in terms of confirmed worldwide cases of the Swine Flu. The United States tops the list, with a number totalling more than 13,000 cases. Their neighbour to the south, Mexico, is second in line with more than 5,700 confirmed cases. Canada is third on the list with over 2,000 whilst Australia comes in the fourth position with over 1,000 confirmed cases.

In terms of fatalities, at the end of May it was reported that worldwide fatalities from the Swine Flu had crossed the 100 person mark. Although this is by no means a comforting number, it is important to keep in mind that thousands of people worldwide die from forms of the flu each year. As the Swine Flu continues dominating the news, it is quite likely that more deaths will be reported as the months roll on, though.

What Australia Is Doing -

The sobering statistics originally listed that said as many as 40% of Australia's population could come down with the Swine Flu are likely being revised, thanks to the ardent efforts of the people in this country. Between the stringent rules concerning the quarantine of people with the illness, and the increasing abundance of people receiving the influenza vaccine, chances are growing increasingly positive that this outbreak can and will be contained.
