Keep Your Hair Looking And Feeling Healthy

Virtually every woman wants sexy hair--and the key to achieving the best-looking and most fashionable locks are to keep them healthy. That isn't always easy, what with having to combat weather, the effects of heat styling, and more. So what do you need to do in order to keep your tresses in tip-top shape? Let me give you a few tips to get you on the right track.

I love experimenting with hair color, but even the highest quality processes at a salon can strip your hair of vital nutrients, causing breakage and split ends. One alternative option is to explore henna hair color. The result can often be gorgeous, leaving the hair nourished and shiny.

There are a few drawbacks, however. Pure henna coloring provides very limited coloring. Without other artificial dyes mixed in, indigo and orange are essentially your only options. Repeated coloring with the orange dye can turn the hair to a rich auburn shade, but a single coloring can leave it an unnatural orange shade.

Henna is a permanent dye, and an individual should wait until the color-treated hair has grown out completely before trying a chemical dye. So if you're not sure what to choose, have a frank conversation with your stylist. He or she will be able to give you some advice that weighs the pros and cons.

At least once every month, you should visit your hair salon for a professional deep conditioning treatment. Even if you're using a high-quality conditioner after every wash, your locks can still benefit tremendously from being regularly imbued with the moisture that penetrates to the very core, giving each strand extra strength. Don't wash your hair for about three or four days following each treatment.

For a straighter, sleeker look without the crispy look of traditional chemical straightening, talk to your stylist about the keratin smoothing complex, a technique pioneered in Brazil which aims to eliminate frizz and unruly waves and curls. Each treatment's effects can last up to nearly three months, at which point another complex can be applied in order to smooth all the new growth.

When performed by a professional, Brazilian straightening can be on the expensive side (and don't cut corners by trying to do it at home, as this can have disastrous consequences), but the results are well worth it. Feel free to consult with your stylist about the possibility when you go to the salon for your next cut and style.

Whenever you heat style, make sure that you use an adequate heat protector to prevent breakage and split ends. Ask your stylist to recommend one for you.
