Juicers: Which Is The One For Me?

Juicers: Which Is The One For Me?

By:

Juicers are the juice-enthusiasts number-one tool. Though manual juicers (citrus reamers) still exist, extracting juice in large quantities by hand is very laborious. Electric juice extractors have become a common kitchen appliance for those searching for a healthier alternative to flavoured beverages. They make the job extremely efficient and are simple to operate.

How do they work? The juice extractor separates the fruit pulp from the fruit juice mechanically, leaving only flavoursome, nutritious goodness for your consumption. Natural fruit juice contains a wealth of vitamins, antioxidants, enzymes and phytochemicals. After juicing is completed, the user can choose to salvage the leftover pulp for use in other recipes or composting processes. It would be fair to say that juicers create less wastage of resources something environment- and cash-conscious consumers should be well aware of.

Juicers come in three classes: Centrifugal juicers, masticating juicers, and triturating juicers. Each has their own merits and disadvantages.

-Centrifugal juicers are the most common variety, and it works by using a high-speed blade to slice up the fruit and to isolate the juice, followed by a sieve to catch the pulp, at which point the juice can be drained out.

-Masticating (single auger) juicers tend to use one screw, which crushes and compacts fruit, letting out juices through a separate outlet to the pulp. With masticating juicers, more juice can be extracted from the same quantity of fruit (compared to centrifugal juicers) more value for money in the long run. Masticating juicers are also quieter and less messy than their centrifugal counterparts. Because the rotation is reduced greatly in masticating juicers, they do not produce much heat in the process of juicing, meaning that the extracted juice will have retained a large proportion of its original nutrients. Moreover, single auger juicers are more versatile than centrifugal juicers, because they can be used to create other types of mashed/chopped food. Some suggested uses are grinding spices, nuts, and processing baby food.

-Twin triturating juicers employ two precisely calibrated, counter-rotating gears to compress the fruit, allowing juice to flow through the gaps between the two gears, while the pulp gets trapped in the rotating mechanism. These juicers are reputed to produce the healthiest and most flavoursome juices, but they are much more expensive than other juicers on the market.
Drinking home-made juice is the health-conscious, budget-conscious and environment-conscious answer to sugary energy drinks and fast food.
