Jobs For College Student

I know there will be some out there who will shake their heads at this suggestion BUT college students should just go for just about any job they can, if the goal is to earn money. It is like dating, you know there are a lot of fish in the sea so you are not trying to be tied down yet in testing the waters.

College students, in my opinion, should still have options and be open to jobs and experiences. I mean how many students in college change their minds while taking courses? A myriad of students do this and this is not a negative thing. I had journalism in mind when I entered my freshmen year but as I took classes I was able to explore other areas I had no idea about. Writing was still an interest but now i was opened to the idea of writing for the big screen! I wanted to Film.

Every break during the school year and summers, I would register with temporary agencies in my hometown. This was great because it enabled me to gain working experience and I could tailor my work schedule around other things I needed and wanted to do. When a temporary agency called to see if I was available for a short-term assignment I could accept or decline. Also, by working for a temporary agency there were not any commitments involved so when it was time for the semester to start back, just let the agency know you are not available. Most agencies, in NC, request that you call at the beginning of each week, to let them know you are available.

Working temporary jobs may help students to get a job later. Do a great job and make a good impression and hey, when you finish college you may land the opportunity you really want.

Do not be afraid to apply for jobs too. You may not feel like you can do a job because you do not have a great deal of experience answering phones or using Excel, but go for it- they have to show you how to do the job. This new skill will help you the next summer when you are available again and the temporary agency asks you to check off things you can do or have experience doing. This way you can pursue the career you always dreamed for.
