Jing Project Screen Capture Software

By:

At times, it's helpful to be able to take a picture or brief video of something on your screen. This includes virtually anything from an image, a funny email or an error message.

In the general, the tedious task of grabbing a screen shot (not something everyone knows how to do in to begin with) copying it into a program for cropping and/or resizing (another skill not everyone posesses), saving it and sending it off is just way a lot of work!

Is there an easier option?

**Jing Screen Capture Software**

Jing Project (or just Jing) is a simple to implement screen capture software that permits you to grab image and video from your screen quickly and easily. The basic version is available for free at JingProject.com.

Once Jing screen capture software is installed, you will see a tiny sun appear at the top of your monitor (you are able to move it around if you need to). That sun will just hang out until you need it for somthing. Whenever you need to capture something, simply move your mouse over the small yellow sun and three rays will appear with Capture, History, and More buttons.

Clicking "capture" will permit you to select the area of your screen you need by clicking and dragging. Then its a simple matter of selecting whether you would like a picture or a video.

**Image Screen Capture**

Click and drag your mouse across the screen to select the region you need to capture. You can also double click a specific window to select it. Jing then provides a preview of the image you can save, delete or edit.

Editing the image in Jing is straightforward as well, adding arrows and boxes - as well as captions and highlighting, can all be done before the image is saved. Once your image is good to go, all you need to do is save and share it.

Jing offers a multitude of sharing options. With just one click it is possible to post your image to facebook, twitter or flickr! You can even copy the image to paste elsewhere, or upload it to an FTP server just as easily.

In a nutshell, Jing allows you to take any part of your screen just about wherever it needs to go.

**Video Screen Capture**

If an image is worth a thousand words, video has to be pretty valuable too which is why Jing makes it just as easy to record video of the action on your screen as it is to capture an image.

After selecting the capture area, simply click the video button and begin recording! Jing will capture anything on your screen for up to 5 minutes at a time (you can, naturally make multiple recordings if you want to). The recording can be paused while you move between windows or prepare your presentation, and then saved in .swf format when its complete.

Sharing your video with others is super easy with Techsmith's (the company that created Jing) online service, ScreenCast.com. Just click the "share" button and the video will be uploaded - plus the URL to the video is automatically copied to your clipboard so you can paste into an email, IM, or whatever else you need. Videos can also be edited in Camtasia (also from TechSmith) with a single click.

Jing Pro edition screen capture software unlocks additional features to allow for even more sharing options, and the option to record videos as .mp4 files, rather than .swf making them more accessible to other viewing and editing programs, but for most users the basic free version is enough to save a TON of time.
