Jhansi Visit

Rich in history, culture and heritage, the city of Jhansi located near the border in Uttar Pradesh is one of the most important cities of the state today. The young and the old know the city as the City of Lakshmibai who was a true of symbol of bravery, patriotism and courage. The Rani of Jhansi, Lakshmibai was a leading warrior during Indias first fight of independence against the British. The young Lakshmibai lost her mother at an early age, and was raised by her father who taught her to use weapons and ride elephants and horses. After she got married, her husband too died at a young age and the Rani found herself responsible for her city as she had no son. She refused to surrender but instead took up the task to protect Jhansi. She assembled warriors and organized an army to defend her city and fought like a true warrior against the British till her last breath.

Situated in the midst of Betwa and Pahunj rivers, Jhansi offers scenic surroundings and is an ideal place for picnics and for tourists who like to trek up to old monuments and historic structures on bicycles or foot.

Jhansi has plenty to offer to its visitors as far as attractions go. The most popular tourist spot is the Jhansi Fort. The fort was then situated strategically to be in the centre of the city on a hillock. There are ten gates to the fort and the inside houses three temples. The fort also houses a museum that provides an excellent insight to the citys history with its amazing collection of weapons, sculptures, statues, dresses and photographs.
For those who plan to visit Jhansi, must check out the amazing spots close by like Orchha, Shivpuri, Barua Sagar, Deogarh and Khajuraho. Orchha is only 18 kms from Jhansi and was founded by a Bundela chief in the 16th century. The remains of the fort speak of the glorious times when the Orchhas ruled. Barua Sagar is located just 24 kilometers from the city of Jhansi and is remembered as a spot where the local Budels took on the mighty Maratha Empire in the year 1744 A.D. The place is named after the Barua Sagar Tal, a large lake created over 250 years by Raja Udit Singh of Orchha. While here, one must not miss checking out the fort which offers an excellent view of the lake and surrounding landscape. If you are travelling with kids or love wildlife, then the Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary is sure to delight you. Located in Lalitpur in Uttar Pradesh, it is only 125 km from Jhansi. Shivpuri was once famous for its dense forests which were used by the Mughal rulers as their hunting grounds. It is approximately 100 kms from Jhansi and is located on the main Delhi Bombay highway.

Jhansi is today a thriving city with lots of industrial and manufacturing units. Jhansi also holds importance as it is a passage of the East-West Corridor, and the North-South Corridor connecting Kashmir and Kanyakumari.
