Jaguar and Land Rover models have launched new cars for the Indian market this month. Each brand has launched three models each to compete against the established
luxury cars in India.
Calling Jaguar and Land Rover models luxurious is an understatement. If good looks are the criteria, JLR will win it effortlessly. On the aspect of engineering Jagaur and Land Rover vehicles are equally placed along with other luxury cars in India.
However, the road to success in India is far from easy for the Jaguar and Land Rover models. Both of these brands have launched three models each- XF, XFR and XKR by Jaguar and Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Discovery 3 sport utility vehicles. All these new car brands are launched in the price range of Rs 62 lakh to Rs 92 lakh.
The Jaguar pack is led by the highly successful XF brand of cars. Next in line is the XK series of cars. It is pitted against strong performers like the BMW 6-series and Aston Martin Vantage available in the western car market. Next in line is the XLR, and yet to launched new XJ series of cars.
In the new car models launched in India, the XF is powered by a 5.0Litre naturally aspirated V8 petrol engine. The new engine looks to step up the performance of the luxury car with its engine output of 383 bhp of power. It can go from 0-100 in less than 5.7 seconds. Yet it is the most efficient and highly effective at fuel economy.
And there are the race car inspired XFR and the XKR. Both these models are powered by the supercharged 5.0 litre which gives an output of 509bhp. It can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h from a standstill in a mere 4.8 seconds making it the ultimate Jaguar sport saloon. The top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h. Owing to is coupe like lean body, the XKR can manage to go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds.
There are not many differences between the
XKR convertible and coupe expect for the new LED cluster taillamps and a more sloping roof line on the coupe. The convertible gets a luxurious three lined fabric top. The convertible top can be unfolded or folded in a mere 18 seconds time, making it one of the most active cover tops on a sports car. The convertible also gets an exclusive roll over protection system which helps protect passengers from falling off the car in case of a roll over.
The Land Rover is as magical the Jaguar. Its legendary history on off-road poweress is well known.
The Land Rover can be called the earliest vehicles to have inspired todays SUVs. The machine has worked hard in the most inhospitable terrain of the earth to deliver where no other car dared to go.
The top of the line Range Rover is highly touted as one of the best off-roaders in the world. It is powered by the 3.6 litre turbocharged diesel V8 engine generating 271 bhp and massive 640Nm of torque. The smaller Sport version of the Range Rover is more versatile in performance. It is equipped with a similar engine tuned to deliver 272 bhp power. It has a contemporary design cockpit with abundant use of wood and leather. The smaller boxy structure Discovery 3 is equipped with a 2.7 litre turbocharged CRDI V6 engine. It features a three row seating arrangement.
These models have proven track record and lots of style in them. Only time will tell if they will standard the test of time against other European and Japanese car brands.
