Italian Food Gifts Options

By:

For a true food lover, Italian food is one of the best cuisines ever experienced. It is world renowned for its simplicity, its flavors and its influence on Western cultures. Italian food gifts are therefore great for any occasion, and are certainly not just limited to cheese and meat.

Jams and Jellies

Italian jams and jellies have a different taste than something store-bought. They are often fresh and homemade, no matter where theyre coming from. Most of them claim to be processed and sealed at the peak of flavor; this is more than likely true. Thus, youre getting a sweet little piece of home with something as opening a jar. And the flavors are surely exotic not limited to grape or strawberry. Apricot, peach and raspberry are often popular, as are nut crmes like hazelnut.

Oils & Vinegar

Adding a bit of canola and olive oil to every meal certainly gives it an Italian flavor. For people who love pastas and salads, oils are a must in their kitchen. Olive oil is the most popular option, but there are several more to consider. Instead of just plain olive oil, try to find something exotic, like oil thats fused with peppers or spices.

Balsamic wine and vinegar is another option. Often drizzled on salads, it can also be used to give a tender, flavorful touch to meat, or used over the top of bread as a glaze while baking.

Desserts

Italian desserts are just as good as the food they serve. They are not heavy, but usually light and never overly sweet.

Breads and cakes are rich in flavor and fluffy, and usually made with fruit. Rum baba is an Italian specialty: its a small yeast cake saturated in rum that may be filled with pastry or whipped cream. You can normally find them in jars, although it isnt rare to see them in bigger sizes similar to a Bundt cake.

Of course there is always the more traditional Italian chocolate, cookies and biscotti. Biscotti are a very hard cookie in the shape of a breadstick. They are usually eaten with coffee, and are crisp like a crouton, but very, very sweet. If the person youre gifting has nut allergies, you may want to be cautious; biscotti are usually filled with almonds, although you can find some that are nut-free.

Biscotti are the perfect gift, because its difficult for them to go stale. Because of the way theyre made they can be kept for a very, very long time.

Wine and Sparkling Juice

Lets not forget the traditional Italian wine and sparkling juice. While you may be able to get these out of the store, real sparkling juices and wines from Italy do not add sugar or any other preservatives or artificial flavors. The taste is guaranteed to be 100% authentic.

Price

Dont worry; Italian food gifts are not expensive in the least. And if youre considering going to go buy something in the store instead, reconsider. Its worth far more to have an authentic gift from one of the most popular food countries in the world shipped to your friend than it is for you to sit a paper bag on their table and say Hey, look what I got.
