It's Time To Light Up A Forgotten Part Of Downtown

It was announced recently that Disney have decided to make many changes to the Pleasure island complex that was dedicated to Night life. They are finally going to replace it and give it a major overhaul. It will be replaced by a new shopping and entertainment centre called Hyperion Wharf. This is because it has been said that the popularity of the hotspot has waned and the area needed to brought back to modern times as Pleasure Island has aged abit.

The word Hyperion comes from the one of the twelve titans Gods from Greek mythology. He was son of Gaia and Uranus and was the lord of the light. The fact that it is named after the Greek God of light will be highlighted by the many bright lights you will see at night as there will speculator light shows at night. It also comes from the fact that the first animation studio built was on the street called by the same name.

Thomas Smith who is the social media director of the Disney park's posted on the Disney blog first details and concept images of the new wharf complex. Stating that 'The district will come to life with a nostalgic yet modern take on an early 20th century port city and amusement pier.

In order for these changes to happen many building swill have to be demolished, most of the former nightclubs buildings such as the Rock'n'Roll Beach Club, Adventurers Club and BET Soundstage will be demolished. But the buildings that housed the Comedy Warehouse, 8TRAX and Mannequins won't be demolished although they haven't stated what they plan to do with those buildings yet.

There is also going to be a an expansion of the special Lego Imagination Centre with the area increasing to 3,500 square feet and also there will be new Lego models made for the exterior of the centre, these will be replicating iconic scenes from various classic Disney films. Also the AMC theatres will get upgrades which will bring it to the new era of technology. One of them will be a fork and screen addon, for those wondering what a fork and screen is, it is when you can experience a film in a restaurant setting. So rather than having popcorn you can choose to have a pizza.

Pleasure Island was very popular in the 1980s as it was seen as a fantastic getaway for adults from the many childish related Disney themes and was a place catered specifically to them. It was parodied a few times in pop culture for example in the Simpson's there was an episode were the Simpson family went to a theme park Itchy and Scratchy Land (named after the popular cartoon) and Homer and Marge leave Bart and Lisa to go to 'Parents Land' and they went to a club that celebrated New Year's Eve every hour (which is spoofing the fact that Pleasure Island celebrated New Year's Eve every Midnight)

Although it is a shame that this historic part of Downtown Disney is getting a facelift we need to look at that positives, it is getting improved and moving into the future with some of the things that they are doing. The new setting will bring a new welcoming atmosphere which will bring lots of people to the park certain Disneyworld vacation homes will be full to the brim at that time as there are other things happening around the whole complex just like Hyperion a new fantasy land themed area that is being built in Magic Kingdom replacing a few of the faded attractions and adding loads more to the park. So 2012 will be a busy year all around and Hyperion wharf is just a small part of something magical.
