It's Alright To Binge On Your Birthday

By:

For many fitness buffs, they stick to a fitness enhancement diet and workout, but then they feel guilty when it comes to their birthday-going out to dinner, eating cake and maybe having a glass or two of wine. It's alright to binge on your birthday, since it is only 1/365th of your fitness regiment and most people have to make exceptions for other holidays or special occasions, too.

Why do people can gain five or ten pounds during the holiday season, and yet it seems like they are no hungrier than they are the rest of year, when they are on lower calorie diets with lower sugar content? The reason for this is simple-the metabolic rate and insulin levels change to a different level. Enjoying everything you want on your birthday is much different than a holiday period that might last for two weeks, a month or longer, which gets your metabolism used to a different fat storing or fat burning routine.

You can use calorie shifting when on a weight loss diet for fitness enhancement and keep your metabolism burning calories effectively through insulin levels that are stable and balanced in the levels in fat burning and fat storing hormones. When you look at food and drink as a chemical balance or imbalance factor, you can start to understand the difference between a one day slip or special occasion and something that the metabolism interprets as a change in behavior, such as a holiday period.

The metabolism can take as much as two or three days to change how it metabolizes calories and sends out messages for the foods that it craves. This is like a grace period so a one day slip-up won't change this chemical reaction much, but one that happens over a period of time, such as two or three days can change the chemical balance, metabolism functions and insulin levels and cause you to gain weight quickly. Once the body adjusts to a certain sugar level, the fat storing hormones try to save as much as you take in. The chemical reaction caused by the release of these hormones make you naturally hungry for more.

That is why calorie shifting is important in fitness enhancement diets. If you consider sugar or carbohydrates that the body converts to sugar, as a drug, similar to other addictive drugs, then it is easier to understand why you have to avoid these foods on a fitness enhancement diet. A diet that is filled with fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, fiber and good fats, such as amino fatty acids are the best diet. There is no reason to restrict certain food groups, as long as you are eating a healthy diet.

On your birthday, you can eat whatever you want as long as you go back to a healthy fitness enhancement diet. Many people that become obese can pinpoint certain events when they started gaining the weight, and some of them point to their birthday. There is a two or three day delay before your metabolism changes and craves sugar as a result of more fat storing hormones and higher insulin levels. Through calorie shifting, you can eat what you want one day and go back to healthy and regular eating habits without seeing any long term negative effect in your weight.
