Is Your Salon Or Spa In Need Of A Retail Remedy?

By:

Getting everyone on the same page at your salon or spa can be difficult. In fact, it is one of the top issues for salon and spa owners today, especially in the area of developing a retail system that works. Retail sales are an untapped profit area for many salons and spas and are integral part of your business' profit.

By finding out what parts of your current retail system are working, you can moreover examine what parts are not. In doing so, you can easily find the proper solution, whether it is more education to engage and stimulate, different products that are appropriate to your client base, or "accountability checks and balances".

There are several challenges that can easily cure your ailing systems; begin by applying these four rolling remedies:

1. Change your perspective! Instead of looking at what you don't like about servicing your clients through retail products, (i.e. selling, pushing products your clients can't afford or hearing the word "no") think about what will actually benefit your clients.

Take their perspective; your clients look to you for solutions to their current needs. When you can provide this to your clients, you instantly become more valuable to them.

2. Ask the questions to give the answers! Asking your clients what they are using on their hair, skin, or nails will jump start the process for you to recommend them the proper product. Only when you know for certain what they are using and how they apply them can you make the proper recommendation.

3. Educate your clients! There are billions of dollars pumped into research and development in the beauty industry every year by manufacturers, take advantage of as much education as it takes for you to feel confident retailing with your clients. Manufacturers are continually rolling out new technologies that can benefit every client.

It is sometimes easy to forget how much insider information we have to share that can vastly improve our client's beauty regimen.

4. Consistency is the key! When you are consistent with every client on every visit, you are vastly improving your odds for retail sales. By using a system 100% of the time, you are far more likely to see results than by doing so intermittently and sporadically.

If you do these things, your salon or spa retail sales will grow. If you retail sales grow your profits and client retention will grow.

Did you know that retail is 8x more profitable than services? I mean, for every $1,000 in service sales you will typically have a net profit of just $50, BUT for every $1,000 in retail sales you will have a net profit of $400.

What would you prefer $50 or $400? Think about it.
