Is Kate Different

Is Kate Different

Kate Middleton, or Princess Catherine, wears the engagement ring that was once Princess Diana's, Princess of Wales, the 'People's Princess. However Prince William adamantly claims "No one is trying to fill my mother's shoes."

It does seem as if it is like comparing an orange and an apple, as Princess Catherine is in fact far different from Princess Diana.

Being descended from King Charles II and King James II of England, Diana was from the aristocracy, whereas Kate Middleton is a commoner.

Aged 29, Kate is considered to be more fully prepared for life as a member of the royal family, than Diana was. Over the past eight years Kate has been thoroughly groomed, whereas Diana, at just 20 years old, had a mere 6 months preparation, before she walked the aisle with Prince Charles.

Only 5 months separate Catherine and William, 28, while Diana was 12 years younger than Charles.

Kate gained an art degree from a top university, whereas Diana not only failed to complete her studies, she only worked for a short time in a nursery.

Brought up in a broken family, Diana's parents divorced while she was still very young. Kate's family on the other hand are a major support to her.

Diana began public life as a shy withdrawn young lady, but rapidly developed a star quality that remains unmatched. Not only was she beautiful, intelligent, charming, charismatic and stubborn, she became universally loved, in spite of the explosive affairs that saw the devastating split between Charles and Diana.

Long after her divorce to Charles, Diana has overshadowed all the other royals, much to the chagrin of the Royal Family, otherwise known as 'The Firm'.

Queen Elizabeth received heavy criticism when the royal family appeared to show a lack of response at the estranged princesses' death, in the face of the overwhelming outpouring of public grief. Just before the funeral the Queen finally made a history making speech about Princess Diana.

In 2004 Queen Elizabeth officially unveiled the Diane, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain in the south-west corner of Hyde Park in London.

Prince William expressed anger over the 'prison of hereditary tradition' after the death of his mother. Only time will tell if Prince William and his bride Catherine will be capable of doing things differently.
