Is It Really Necessary To Get A Licensed Limo?

By:

Many people have seen limousines with handwritten or cheaply printed signs in their windows, usually parked in shopping center or other large public parking lots. While at first glance these limos may seem like a good deal, always remember that there is a fair chance they are not licensed. While unlicensed limos are now banned throughout the United Kingdom, they are still a large part of life in the United States and other countries. The best thing to do, no matter what country you are in, is to select a limo operated by a licensed company.

There are many reasons that using a licensed limo company is a financially prudent and physically safe idea. While things can still go wrong with even the fanciest professionally licensed limo company, the risks of problems commonplace among rogue limo operators is significantly reduced. This is because licensed limo operators are more accountable to organizations such as each state's Department of Licensing, their local government and the Better Business Bureau. An independent contractor operating a limo has less motivation to obey basic etiquette once they have your cash in hand.

Common problems with unlicensed companies and independent contractors include rides not showing up on time, rude and unprofessional driver conduct, unsafe driving and overcharging. In addition, because virtually every limo company requires full payment in advance, there is a stronger risk of a rogue limo operator disappearing with the money or not providing the full service expected once he or she is paid.

There are many ways to ensure your selected limo company is licensed. For instance, virtually every state has a Department of Licensing or similarly named bureau. Simply look on the Internet or call the state department. You unfortunately can't trust the word of the company these days, as licensing may mean different things to different people. In addition, you can also visit, call or sometimes search online through your city's records to ensure the limo company you want to use has a valid business license. Steps like these may seem like additional work, but when it comes to the expense and potential fun of a great day or night out in a limo, any independent research is well worth the time. Remember that problems are pretty rare but increase your chances of a drama-free trip by doing your homework.
