Is Analysis Paralysis Your Weight Loss Crisis?

By:

Do you get confused when you read about all the different approaches to losing weight out there? Do all the different diets, ways of doing cardio, times of day to work out and latest fitness guru fads leave you feeling paralysed and confused about what the heck you are doing?

Well, you are not alone and it's been nicknamed analysis paralysis by someone a lot more clever than I am.

Analysis paralysis is when you get stuck not doing a thing because all the different approaches are fighting for first place in your brain. This means that the body never gets a message to "go" on any particular route. You are stuck over-thinking.

In fact, what happens is instead of weight loss being the problem trying to be solved, "how to solve the problem of weight loss" is the problem being solved! You are stuck trying to solve the problem of how to solve the problem!

Now I am all for taking the best route to solve any problem but wouldn't you agree that when you are trying to lose weight that doing something is going to bring you around to the goal a lot sooner than doing nothing? Let's look at this from another angle. If both you and a rock want to lose weight, but you run around the block while you try to figure out how to the lose weight and the rock, well, just does what a rock does.. who is going to lose weight sooner given enough time?

Action always beats non-action. At least with action, you can learn from your mistakes. When you do nothing, nothing happens. You run out of time. Time is something non of us can afford to lose.

When it comes to analysis paralysis with weight loss or any issue you are tackling, look at the big issues and keep working at the ultimate solution for you, while you actually do something in the meantime.

For example, after it is all said and done, losing weight comes down to burning off excess stored energy. So, regardless of what method, technique, or super secret strategy is being pumped on TV this month, burning excess energy is the bottom line. What are you doing about that NOW.

So if you are sitting there, wondering if you should do morning cardio in a fasted state or if you should do high carb or low carb... get outside and do something that burns calories. Then, while you are resting from your action, research percentage points of effectiveness and learn from the latest guru to your hearts content.

Picking the "big issues" and making sure those are covered are the easiest way to get moving towards your goal. If you are the type that will worry that perhaps you are wasting your time with a less effective approach or perhaps are doing something wrong or making a mistake, remember only non-achievers don't make mistakes.

Successful people hurry to make mistakes. Mistakes are like a beeper that makes a noise every time your guided missile gets a little too far off track to the left or right. Zig zagging back and forth constantly being guided towards the goal. Sometimes the missile takes a little longer to get there, but it will NEVER get there if you don't pull the trigger.
