Is Adding Uninsured Motorist Insurance To Your Car Insurance Policy Worth The Extra Expense?

No one is questioning the fact that we live in a recessed economy. The rapidly falling sales of most local retailers is enough to testify to that fact! The question that many Americans are having to ask themselves, however, is what expenses can be cut to allow them to stretch their income farther and what expenses cannot. When it comes to car insurance, uninsured motorist coverage should always be toward the top of the "not" list.

As unemployment is climbing at a frightening rate, with experts predicting it to peak at a record high in the U.S. population by 2010, drivers are cutting back. And one of the places they're cutting back is on their car insurance. The number of uninsured drivers in the United States is climbing rapidly, and those same experts predict that over 16% of all drivers in the U.S. will be hitting the highways without insurance coverage within the next twelve to twenty four months.

That's bad news for most of today's drivers, particularly those that don't carry no-fault insurance and therefore are forced to rely on the driver who caused the accident to pay for the damages to their vehicle and any medical bills their personal insurance doesn't cover. You can probably see where this is going. When you've got a driver whose income doesn't allow them to afford $100 or so in car insurance each month, how on earth are they going to pay for thousands of dollars in damages? Uninsured motorists are bad news, and as the economy continues to fail they're more of a threat than ever.

That's why most car insurance providers offer their drivers the chance to add uninsured motorist coverage to their car insurance policy. When you as a driver are carrying uninsured motorist insurance and you're involved in an accident with a driver who either doesn't have any insurance at all or whose insurance is so minimal that it won't cover the full extent of the damages your insurance company will pick up the slack. You can rest assured that you aren't going to be left holding the bag on thousands of dollars worth of bills, unable to pay for your repairs until the legal system manages to squeeze the amount out of the driver that caused the accident.

How long do you think that's going to take? The courts will set up a reasonable payment plan, but that payment plan's going to be reasonable according to what they can afford-not what you need them to pay to get back on the road. On the other hand, by adding uninsured motorist insurance to your already efficient car insurance policy you can comfortably sit back and expect your car to be back on the road as quickly as possible.

The really good news is that even with the recessed economy you're not going to be paying much more on a monthly basis for car insurance with uninsured motorist coverage than you would be for car insurance without it, and the benefits far outweigh the risks. Don't you have something better to do with thousands of dollars than spend it paying for someone else's mistakes?
