STEEL Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) is setting up an iron ore beneficiation plant and along with it a pellet production unit at the captive mines of Bhili Steel Plant in collaboration with a private party.
Both these two units are likely to be grouped into one composite industrial unit and it would be located near the Hitches slime pond next to the Dali
Iron Ore Beneficiation Plant in Chhattisgarh. The private player would be asked to set up the whole unit.
For this project, SAIL would be offering the land and water to the private partner and the two would have a special agreement. Sources said that the infrastructure would be set up by the private player but it would cater only to sails needs. Accordingly, it would be paid off on a 'cost conversion basis'. Capacity of the proposed pellet plant has been pegged at 0.5 million tones per annum. It would be producing only blast furnace grade pellet. SAIL has already sought expressions of interest (EOI) from the interested parties.
Itabiritic ore is excavated by bulldozers, loaded by front-end loaders into 177t-capacity trucks and taken to a crushing and screening plant in the blending yard. The ore is blended and stored before transport by belt conveyors to the surge pile. An overland conveyor system transports the ore over a distance of 4km to the beneficiation plant at Germane.
At the
Iron Ore Mining Crushing machine and Grinder the ore is screened, crushed and classified to feed the primary mills. This circuit assures sufficient reduction of the iron ore particles. It is then declaimed, declaimed, with the ultrafine material being removed in cluster cyclones before conventional flotation where waste material such as silica is separated from the iron particles. The ore is reground and enters a column flotation circuit. The addition of a roller press in 2004 improved productivity by 7%. The resulting concentrate is slurred with water for pipeline transport.
The concentrator is capable of an annual production of 24Mt of iron-ore concentrates a year. Its output in the 2008 financial year was 8.5Mt
