By:

iPod hearing loss is a phenomenon that is entirely preventable if the iPod user takes a few basic precautions. Spend the two minutes it will take to read this short article and find out the simple steps you can take to prevent it. Your ears will thank you!

Hearing loss usually develops over a period of years or even decades. In this sense it is very much like say, heart disease in that the person suffering it will often go for years without realizing that they even have it. And in the case of hearing loss many people once they do become aware of it are often unwilling to admit that they have it.

Today, as well as hearing loss due to work or other environmental causes technology has now provided us with a unique ability to produce self inflicted hearing loss through the use of devices such as the iPod and similar personal music players. While this is true, the sad part is that it does not have to be so since there are two simple steps you can take to prevent harming your hearing.

The first of these two steps is to dig up the manual on your iPod of other music device and see if there is a setting that will limit the upper limit of noise that the unit can produce. If so set it to a maximum of 80 Db. If your device does not have a maximum output setting use your own judgement in combination with the rule of thumb that says when listening to the device you should always be able to hear the ambient noise around you.

If you religiously follow these two simple steps you go a long way to ensuring that you will not be wearing hearing aids in your thirties or worse be living with the constant incessant, non-stop internal ringing of tinnitus, or worst of all both at the same time.
