Invisalign - Who Is An Ideal Candidate For This Dental Care Option

By:

The Invisalign system is a revolutionary orthodontic treatment that is quickly taking the place of standard metal braces. Unlike regular braces, Invisalign is completely undetectable thanks to the clear plastic form they are made from. This treatment has gained popularity in recent years, particularly among those individuals that have put off having orthodontic treatment from standard braces due to their appearance. While Invisalign is extremely effective and sought after, it is unfortunately a treatment that is not right for everyone.

Due to the way that the Invisalign system works, only those individuals that have all of their permanent teeth will be considered for the treatment. Invisalign cannot be used on temporary, or baby teeth, so the treatment is generally only used on teenagers over the age of 13. The Invisalign system can help those that suffer from slightly misaligned or crooked teeth, or those teeth that suffer from an overbite, underbite, or crossbite. In some cases if the teeth are extremely misshapen, other forms of orthodontia may be recommended.

Other criteria for candidacy include a dedication to using the Invisalign product. Unlike regular braces which are adhered to the teeth, Invisalign is completely removable. As such, it is often easy to forget to use the product routinely, particularly for those patients that remove the piece while eating or sleeping. In order for the product to work effectively, you must be dedicated to wearing the piece regularly, as well as keeping appointments to have new Invisalign pieces fitted for your teeth as they move.

If you can meet these few minor criteria, than Invsialign may be a good choice for you. Though more costly than regular braces, Invisalign is extremely effective and an excellent choice for those that want to have a beautiful, straight smile without the use of ugly metal braces. If you think you are a good candidate for receiving Invisalign, you should contact your family dentist who can refer you to an orthodontic specialist that uses the Invisalign treatment in your area.
