Introducing Your Au Pair To Their New Home

Choosing a suitable au pair can be a difficult process for any family, but with the right support and guidance it can be easily organised. Although it may seem daunting in the beginning, the outcome can be very rewarding and you may find that you feel like you have an extra person integrated into your family. Here in this article we shall look at how to find your ideal au pair and how to make them feel welcomed into your home.

The best way to find a good au pair is to go through an agency, although it may cost money it will ensure that you find someone with all the right qualifications and if something does not work out well you will have support and a replacement. The interviewing process is an important aspect to choosing the right carer, after all this person is a virtual stranger and will be living in your home and looking after your children. Don't be afraid to ask what you want and if you are uncertain about anyone or have doubts then listen to them. Trust is a very important part of this type of care and without it you may struggle.

Once you have chose your au pair then the next challenge is to make them feel really at home. The more effort you make, then the more it will make your new carer feel welcomed. Obviously there are laws that state how much space an au pair should have the basic needs they will have once staying at your home. There is a great chance that the au pair you choose will be from another country, therefore taking the time to learn a few words and phrases from their country is a great way to make them feel at home and less isolated.

Treat your au pair as you would a family member or friend and encourage them to tell you about their own home life. Remember to be considerate, there is a good chance at some stage they will feel homesick and added support from you will help them. Write out all expectations and duties you want so that your au pair is aware of the routine they will be getting into and know exactly what you want them to do and things you do not.

Lastly, encourage your au pair to make friends at their college classes and take them on days out from time to time. If they feel at home and happy then it will definitely make everything easier for the whole family and you will bond. Just by taking them out to the supermarket you can let them tell you what types of food they like and make them feel more at home.
