Introducing La Palma

By:

Fittingly, La Palma has been nicknamed "La Isla Bonita", which means the beautiful island.

La Palma Airport

La Palma Airport services the small Island of La Palma, welcoming domestic and international travelers daily.

The airport is located 8 km south of the island's capital, Santa Cruz de La Palma, next to La Polvasera.

The number of passengers passing through this small airport has grown every year, reaching up to one million travelers annually.

Many reputable car hire companies have counters in the Arrivals and Departure terminals, making easy car rental pick up and drop off possible.

Climate in La Palma

Encased by the Atlantic Ocean, the island of La Palma is known for its sunny weather and secluded coastline.

Thanks to its subtropical climate, summers in La Palma are not too hot and winters are generally mild.

Travel Inside

Car hire in Spain is the best way to discover the remote wilderness of the island. Roads are well-maintained and marked clearly. Sharp turns may challenge you, but driving within the speed limit should eliminate the risks.

Public transport is minimal on the Island of La Palma -- no train network exists.

Taxis can be expensive and are not worth the money, unless of course you are in a real hurry or tired after a long day of shopping.

Ferries are a great way to travel between the Canary Islands. For anyone prone to sea sickness, the majority of flights leaving La Palma Airport facilitate island hopping.

Must Visit

There are a few nice towns worth visiting during your stay, but the main attraction in La Palma is its countryside.

Impressive volcanoes and dense vegetation in the valleys will not disappoint the keen sight-seer.

El Roque de los Muchachos is the highest point on the island and, for most of the year is easy to access by car.

The beaches of La Palma covered in dark, soft lava sand are also worth noting. Youll have no trouble finding a tranquil stretch of beach to lie on.

In the East of the island, north of Santa Cruz de La Palma, there are two natural swimming pools, cut out of lava rocks and filled with sea water.

One should not miss Playa Nueva between Puerto Naos and Tazacorte. The long Palmerian beach is perfect for sunbathing and swimming.

Youll be spoilt for choice when you hire a car in La Palma.
