Marilyn Burns, who is a prominent children's book author teaching about mathematical subjects, has developed a plan for intervention for math. Ms. Burns has received the Louise Hay Award for Contributions to Mathematics Education from the Association for Women in Mathematics and continues to be a prominent spokesperson when it comes to helping children understand math.

Her ability to teach math to children who have had difficulties understanding the concepts has been amazing. She has also developed tools for assistance to teachers and parents as well, allowing them to have the basic understanding of the mathematical formulas so that they can be better teachers for the children.

The intervention for math concept is such that there needs to be a change in the way of thinking about math, a total redirection in the teaching of the subject to the child. The intervention comes about with the new processes taught through Marilyn Burns' way of thinking. By using stories, which all children love and understand, there is a way to connect them to math, helping the children to understand the basic concepts of math.

Once the basic concepts of math are understood, repetition is used to ensure that the children are able to grasp and keep hold of the ideas and formulas for better retention. Repetition is one of the best ways to teach children after all.

Marilyn Burns has been in education for the past 40 years and has helped many students, teachers, and parents understand math. Her ability to teach others is uncanny and her ability to reach through brick walls by telling stories that children understand in order to teach them math is amazing. Each math lesson strengthens instructional strategies used for teaching math and to reinforce critical thinking, computation, number sense, and problem solving skills ensuring that children make the best use of their time.

Quite often teachers have been left without the resources necessary in order to teach the class the math skills needed. That is no longer a problem thanks to Marilyn Burns. She has done a wonderful job in ensuring that each teacher has a full set of instructional booklets teaching them how the problems should work as well as how to explain them to the children.

With taking an intervention for math concept with teachers as well, the basics are taught to the teachers making sure that they can answer the questions from the students so they are not left out in the cold.
