Internet Branding Online Has Nothing To Do With Your Name

By:

When most think of branding they think of the name of a company. The truth is branding has nothing to do with your name at all; it's the name people think of or associate with when they come across products or services related to your niche market.

Let's say your niche market is designer cat collars and your business name is Pam's Cat Collars. When someone does things of collars for their pet and they automatically think of Pam's Cat Collars, that's branding - being automatically associated with your niche. It has nothing to do with your logo, how many friends you have on MySpace or how many tweets you've made about your business, although this all does help build internet branding online.

My marketers, especially beginners have the misconception that filling their web pages with popups and videos and music will attract visitors, when it actually turns most people away. It's confusing, there's not enough quality content, and it doesn't focus on what the marketer is trying to sell. If we use the cat collar business again - web pages with 20 Flicker pics of cats and videos of cats singing and dancing or doing stupid pet tricks and maybe two pictures of cat collars, will probably not do much for your business or branding. You are more likely to be remember as the person with the stupid cat tricks on your page and while you may get visitors coming to your page to watch the funny videos, when the videos are done, so are they and they move on to what they were originally searching for.

You should have an even balance of content spread across the internet - through article directories, forums, blogs, social networking and book marking, etc. Yes, you can add video to your web pages, but you don't want it to take away from your products. By providing useful information across the boards, you are not only building internet branding online, but you are increasing your search engine rankings. Remember, it's not about your name, but what's behind it. If you have tons of affiliate products and other distractions, your visitors will get confused and lose focus. You want to inform them, sometimes amuse them, but more importantly, you want them to buy from you.

If you're having a difficult time putting it all together, get some help. There are many online companies that are in the business of helping individuals get started. You aren't expected to know everything in the beginning, but avoiding costly mistakes can save you a significant amount of time and money on internet branding online.
