International Office Relocation

International Office Relocation

By:

In the move to another continent or any form of international office relocation, your goods may be going via intermodal services. This is when the office furniture and equipment are picked up by a trucking company then delivered to an airport or seaport then loaded onto a plane or boat. Generally office removals are not done by train but this could be true in some instances and some countries. When the plane lands or the ship docks the office items will be loaded back into a truck and will be delivered to new international office location.

International office relocation requires coordination. It also requires different paperwork depending on where your office is relocating to. The office items will have to be accepted by the port authority in the port and will have to go through customs in the new country. Of course the office staff will not be arriving with the office furniture and other items but generally someone should be in touch with the coordinating moving company in case there are problems or issues that have to be dealt with.

When the office relocation is an international move the office manager and the mover need to consider the time it will take to get from the old office to the new office. There is packing time, loading time, then transport to the port and the loading onto a ship. Then there is transit time to the destination port. Time has to be allowed for customs clearance and release to the next phase shipper. Then there is the loading and transit time from the port to the new office. All of this can be performed over weekends but everything depends on just how far the office is going. If it is crossing nearby boarders it may take a few days but in some countries you are only allowed to move so much into the country at any one time without some form of taxes being imposed on the goods.

If the office is making a move across the English Channel say, then it could take from a few days to a week. In any case it does require special attention. The items may have to be crated up so they withstand the move. It doesnt make sense to make an international move and use flimsy packing materials. If that is the case you may as well hold an office sale and purchase new equipment for the new office.

In fact it may be best to do a comparison and see exactly what an international office move will cost versus purchasing all new office furniture and equipment at the now office location. You may have to have the office documents packed and shipped but this would cost a lot less then packing and shipping an entire office.

There are a lot of decisions when considering an international move. An international move does cost money both in time and actual currency. The fact the office will not be open during the move has to be considered also.
