International Business Rookie Tips

International Business Rookie Tips

By:

It makes me smile to remember just over five years ago when I was a very young college graduate with plans to travel overseas, conquer international markets in Asia and Europe and become a Wall Street icon along the way, as business moguls and presidents would call me constantly, asking and begging for advice because of my savvy ways. Clearly, I was delusional.

I imagined my life an an international business man would be spent waiting on Limo Services as opposed to visa services.

What may have only been six years seems like an eternity ago, and I have done more travelling than I would have ever expected. This article is a lot less about the business struggles of a young man and more about the travelling tips that I have to give those like myself who wanted to conquer the world.

In all reality, i do wish that I would have stumbled upon an article all those years ago while studying in college. Perhaps some tips from a travel veteran would have helped me gain insight on how to avoid the trials and tribulations of international business. There is a good chance that I might not have heeded the advice, but it certainly would at least helped me know what to expect.

So pull out a pad and a writing pen, because we have some tips and advice when it comes to traveling overseas to start your business career, and it would heavily benefit you to pay attention.

In the next few weeks we will give advice on everything from the Airport Limo to the hotels you should use.

After having worked in five different US states, three different regions in the Philippines, and travelled from Tokyo to Ho Chi Minh city, I have a few things for you to do before you go.

1.) You should always avoid the mistake of taking somebody else's word for it when it comes to your business paper work and international work permits being in order once you land. Although some companies do have the power to get it done once you arrive, this can often be a trap or even a clue as to your position on their priority list. In addition, if you end up having to do the work yourself, your paperwork will be thousands of miles away. Avoid legal troubles and spend the extra time and money to ensure you ALWAYS have the right stamp before you board your flight.

2.) Make sure that you make plenty of phone calls and do a solid amount of research on the business you would like to work for. A good BBB rating and a solid website mean nothing. I'm not saying that you shouldn't roll the dice every once in a while and take a little bit of a risk, but what I am saying is that you should be well informed about what type of risk you are taking so that you can have a solid plan B.

3.) You should never go in with the expectations that a c heck will be waiting for you once you arrive. Countries around the world have many different ways of handling pay roll, tax code, and pay distributions. Often times, the work vises can take quite a bit to arrive, so it would be very wise of you to always bankroll your wallet with a few months worth of salary so that you never end up in a very sticky situation.

We clearly have other tips for you, so check back in with us soon so that you can always be informed!!
