When deciding on interior designer schools make sure they offer programs in art and design. It does not matter if it is a college, university or a professional school you will need this program in order to get a degree in interior design.

Next you will need to decide if you want an associate's degree or a bachelor's degree. The associate's degree will require you to attend school for two years. While a bachelor's degree will require you attend school for four years.

Lastly the college might ask to see a portfolio of the work you have done so far. It is always wise to keep everything you create and put it in a file. This way you have a chance to show off the skills you have acquired so far.

College is not free so when you are accepted you will be asked to fill out paperwork for loans. These loans will help to pay for your education and be deferred until after you graduate. This would also be the perfect time to find out about any grants that are available to students from the government. If you qualify for any Pell Grants from the government you will not have to pay these back.

When you graduate from college with your degree it is best to work as assistance for an interior designer for a few years. This will help in showing you direction and fine tuning your skills. When you know the ropes you can venture out on your own.
