Interior Design - Ideas For An Attic Conversion

By:

The attic is commonly used a place of storage. This can be for those precious childhood belongings that we just cant let go, or for suitcases and boxes that we may to use again one day. More often than not, however, you will find that the majority of things in the attic are disposable and that the space they are occupying could be used much more constructively.....or at least some of it.

Increasingly, people are recognising the opportunity to add value to their property by extending the living space into the attic. This doesnt have to be the only reason to expand though, you can do so as a means of creating pleasure for yourself and your family, whilst remaining safe in the knowledge that the work you have done has also been of monetary value.

Below are some suggestions for what you could use your attic space for:

Bedroom
One of the more conventional ideas for an attic conversion is to use the space for an extra bedroom. This could to make space for a new born child, to accommodate the child who has grown out of sharing with their sibling, or to accommodate granny. Whatever the reason, converting the attic to a bedroom can add significant value to a property if done stylishly and in good taste. Be careful not to just throw a bed and some drawers, and make sure you have the planning permission!!!!

Lodger room
In these times of financial difficulty any extra income streams are welcome. By converting your attic into a lodger suite you can rent it out and, before long, you should make a tidy profit on the investment. You may want to consider making the lodger suit self contained in order to preserve your privacy, although this may add to the cost of the project significantly.

Games room
This idea is popular with the gents as it allows them that little bit of personal space to get away from it all and spend some time by themselves or with their pals. The lady of the house will also be happy that any mess associated with male pass times will be contained in one place.

Office
If you are self employed, or indeed spend a significant amount of time working from home, it will be good for you to have a space which you associate entirely with work. It can be difficult to be productive when working from home as you associate it as a place where you relax. Working in the attic means that you can keep yourself away from all of the distractions of the home.
