Intention: A Guiding Light

Do you ever worry that you are scurrying around aimless in the dark? Like you are rushing blindfolded with your hands outstretched, hoping that you don't bang into anything that will break or at a minimum leave a blemish? Life can certainly feel chaotic at times. Amidst our numerous tasks and duties, we can lose sight of ourselves. Feeling adrift, we go on auto pilot and before we know it weeks, months or years have gone by along with our sense of purpose and passion.

Most of us are used to setting goals and priorities to complete a task list. And while I support this method of planning, I present you with a similar challenge that will bring clarity to your life. How could your life improve if every day you connected with your values and increased your attention to your thoughts and feelings? Your challenge this month is to practice living with intention.

There are many intentions that you can define each day. The kind of intention I am encouraging you to ponder is defined by your inward value system. Taking time to ponder your values will give them presence in your day. They will assist you through decision making, feeling your feelings and connecting with others.

Right now, walk out of the darkness and set a value driven intention. Not only will you feel a healthier sense of self, you will also become more present. Knowing who we are in every instant of our days is critical to feel empowered.

Reality Check

You aspire intentionally when you:

* Become clear about your values and pledge to practice them during the day.
* Allow your values versus other's opinions to lead your thoughts.
* Take a moment each day to explore HOW you can bring your values to you life.
* Check in with your intention before reacting to your feelings or other's requests.
* Reflect on your day's intention and identify how it lead you.

Fearless Integration

1. Take a moment and think over your values. Examples of values include authenticity, rejuvenation, family, listening, action or allowing.
2. Affirm an intention to practice one of your values. For example, "Today, I will practice rejuvenation."
3. Identify ways you can meet your intention. For example, give myself a break, celebrate myself, reply no to other's requests, reward myself, do one task at a time."
4. Remind yourself of your intention throughout your day and before reacting to a feeling or making a choice.
