Instead of using wireless networks this fiber optic technology can be easily be implemented in a home based computer networks as well. These optical fibers are generally made of plastic. Anyone who wants a faster connection can use Ethernet technology at home or in the working environment Due to the low power LED bulbs been used, the maintenance cost of fiber optic networks are comparatively low.

Fiber optic networks may soon be used in broadband technology providing greater downloading and uploading speed than the currently used ADSL technology. One drawback of a fiber optic network is its vulnerability for hacking. Hence the requirement for a higher security measurement is essential.
