Loads of people love to dance, and if you have been dancing for a long time and wonder how you can have a career in dance, one thing to consider is being a dance teacher. This not only means you can be involved in dance on a day to day basis, but that you will be teaching others to enjoy the activity which means so much to you. Any kind of teaching can be a highly rewarding job, but it is all the more so if you have a huge passion for the subject you are teaching. People who teach dance all tend to be very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about their subject, and they understand the needs of budding dancers and how to support them best emotionally as well as physically. Good teachers will be patient and use positive reinforcement to encourage growth and improvement in pupils.

As well as teaching lessons,a dance teacher may well have to perform other duties, such as planning lessons in advance and selecting appropriate pieces of music and routines. Making sure that students know how to do warm up exercises and dance safely is also vital, as this can help to prevent potentially serious injuries. Recording an individuals progress and providing feedback to either the student or their parents is another task, as is helping exam preparation if required. Whether a dance teacher in a school or a provider of private lessons, the same principals apply, to provide a safe and effective learning environment.

Not everyone who is proficient at dance begin their career as a dance teacher some start out as professional performers and later decide that teaching is a good next step. Others may pursue a completely different career, only dancing in their spare time, until they decide to combine their love of dance with work. There are several ways to study to become a dance teacher, dependant on what kind of environment you wish to teach in. If uncertain it is best to seek advice from your own dance tutor or request information from a variety of educational institutes to see which course would suit you best.

Today, many potential teachers are put off by the fear of trying to manage unruly and even violent children or young people. A lot of these fears can be put to rest when actually studying teaching methods and finding out about support within educational facilities. Most students of dance are attending voluntarily, and are often paying for lessons. In these circumstances it is unlikely they will be disruptive. Chances are that dance students will be just as keen to learn as their teacher was when first starting out!

For those who feel inspired to dance, and want to help others achieve their dreams and potential, being a dance teacher is a great option. Just remember that it may not always be an easy job, but hard work, understanding and enthusiasm all help you to be remembered by students throughout their lives, as an inspiration and as an advisor.
