Inspirational Guidance From Jesus

Inspirational Guidance From Jesus

By:

"I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of Heaven" Jesus of Nazareth

I recently stumbled upon this Bible passage and at first; dismissed it like I do with several other quizzical passages that I can't seem to wrap my mind around. But as I placed the Bible down on my nightstand and turned off the lights, I had an epiphanyI realized why Jesus would say such an outwardly peculiar statement This was my thought process

It's understandable why it's so difficult for people to fathom such a philosophy. Children are often ignorant, disobedient, and even at times, irritating. It takes years of education and scolding before the child can be a contributing member of society. So why would Jesus advise us to change and revert back to "little children"? The answer is more simplistic than one would image Children are often the closest to God. A child's happiness, imagination and faith are all attributes that seemingly deteriorate as the child grows older This is an unfortunate fact, considering these are all attributes that are cherished by both God and your peers.

Let us analyze this a bit further, starting off with a child's happiness. Children can be preoccupied with virtually anything; they are fascinated and intrigued by the world around them It is evident that too many of us, myself included, take life's beauties for granted all too often. This is a virtue that I greatly admire in children You could simply let a group of children out in your back yard and you'll see that they'll be intrigued and content with their surroundings, no matter how dull and boring your backyard may be. This brings me to my next topic, a child's colorful imagination. What you perceive as a dull and boring backyard is a limitless abyss when viewed through the eyes of a childA wise man once said "the power of imagination makes us infinite". However, our imaginations all too often diminish as we grow older.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, children have unprecedented faith. If you ask a child what he or she wants to be when they grow up, common answers may be an astronaut or even a professional athlete as they grow older and are beaten down by negativity and disappointment, their faith and dreams will often fade. Jesus is essentially saying we all have to reacquire these long lost traits in order to enter "the kingdom of Heaven". Even if entering the kingdom of Heaven is not on the top of your priority list (speaking to my nonreligious readers) I still feel as if these are all imperative human characteristics. Although these traits may be difficult to salvage, I have trust that they can be regained.
