Information And Suggestions For Choosing A Flower Girl

By:

A flower girl has an important role to play in your wedding. But what are one of these girls for? A flower girl is usually a young girl between the ages of 4 and 8, and she has a special connection to the bride and groom. She could perhaps be a niece or a cousin, or simply a family friend. The girl follows behind the bridesmaids (sometimes before and sometimes after the maid of honor) with a basket of flowers and scattering the flowers down the aisle.

How do you go about choosing a flower girl? For some the choice will be obvious, while others may have to worry about a problem of plenty and having to choose between several possible candidates. There's nothing against having two or even three girls - it will add to their confidence and also increases the cuteness quotient. Avoid choosing someone who is too young - most likely she will be confused and even scared. An older girl may be more suited for jobs such as a junior bridesmaid or a reader. If your only choices are not that close to you or unsuitable, there is no reason why you should have a girl to throw the flowers.

One of the best ways to prepare your girl for the role is to buy her a book about being a flower girl and getting her excited. Seat her parents on the aisle and near the front so that the girl sees them when she walks down the aisle and during the ceremony itself. You can ask a bridesmaid to be her friend and make sure she uses the restroom before the ceremony. And don't be too nervous that your girl will make a mistake. Even if she dumps all her petals at the start of the aisle, runs instead of walks, or even starts to cry, your guests would in all probabilities think it's cute!

Most often than not, the girl is dressed in a mini-version of the bride's dress or a white dress with a sash that matches the bridesmaids dresses. But you certainly have the liberty to choose any sweet dress that blends perfectly into the look of the wedding. Ensure that your girl's dress is comfortable and not too long, so that she won't be pulling at her dress or tripping down the aisle. In case your girl doesn't like dresses, choose a pants outfit with the same level of formality as the bridesmaids' dresses. You can find flower girl dresses at children's clothing stores, bridal shops and department stores.
