Information About Toe Fungus Treatment

By:

One very common issue for those professionals dealing with foot problems is toe fungus treatment. Many people at some point in their lives will develop some form of fungal infection. This type of infection is more common in the toes largely due to poor hygiene issues, some form of foot or nail trauma, or because of a persons susceptibility to the infection.

Fungi is made up of living organisms that are more comfortable in places that are moist, dark and warm, which makes the a toenail ideal for it to grow. A brown or yellowish color could appear on the nail as the infection becomes more severe and in extreme cases disfigurement of the toe and possibly the foot can occur. Embarrassed sufferers will want to get rid of this as soon as possible.

It can be very common for fungus's to be picked up in places such as the puddles that form on tiles at the swimming pool, at the spa or any other similar public place where people are likely to walk barefoot. Prevention is better than the cure, so it is advisable to wear slippers or other similar protection for the feet when in these situations.

There are many different forms of remedies available from the doctor and from over the counter medications. Ideally any treatment should be started at the earliest sign of infection, but it is possible to begin treating successfully at different stages of the infection. Treatments available come in both natural and unnatural forms, and depending on the severity of the fungal infection one or both forms of treatment may be needed.

A doctor will usually prescribe a toe fungus treatment which is made from unnatural ingredients such as terfenadine, fluconazole, or itraconazole. These prescribed medicines may be more effective at treating the condition but come with certain side effects such as headaches. Liver problems, or stomach upsets.

Natural treatments which are usually made from plant extracts such as tea tree oil, lemongrass and clove oil are generally milder but can take longer to take effect, in some cases as much as 3 months before a person notices any significant difference. Infections caused by fungi are known to be quite difficult to treat and in most instances the use of both natural and prescribed remedies will need to be applied.

Medical advice should be sought before starting on any of the treatments for fungal infections to make sure that you are treating the correct condition. What may seem like a fungal infection may be another problem which shows similar symptoms. Getting advice early on will lessen the risk of the infection spreading.

Toe fungus treatment is a simple process, involving drugs taken orally and or sprays and creams applied directly to the affected area. Some people will be able to get rid of fungi in a matter of weeks, while for others it could be many months. Keeping the feet clean and dry will help to speed up the recovery.
