Indoor Grow Lights Should Be Part Of Your Gardening Tools

By:

If anyone ever tells you that it is a simple thing to grow an outdoor vegetable garden, then they are likely telling you that from pure speculation and might have never grown one themselves. There is nothing that simple about growing a healthy, productive garden. It takes a good bit of knowledge, a little accumulated skill, a little patience and a little luck. Sometimes even if you do everything right, if the weather does not cooperate, your garden could still not thrive and produce as well as you would like it to.

One of the best ways to ensure your garden does well is to make sure your plants get as healthy a start as possible. There are many plants that you can start from seeds indoors well before the time to plant them outdoors comes. If you have your plants well started by the time the last freeze takes place, they will stand a much better chance of survival than if you plant seeds directly in the ground. Many times when you plant seeds directly in the ground and the weather does not cooperate, they could drown and rot if there is too much rain or they could fail to sprout at all if there is not enough rain. Watering your garden manually can solve the lack of rain issue, but it is a lot of work.

It is always an option to buy your plants like tomatoes, beans, cucumbers and other common garden vegetable in pots already started at your local garden supply center, but this can an extra cost to starting your garden and you should avoid this if possible. Starting your own plant sets from seeds at home is very easy if you have the right supplies and indoor grow lights. You will need an adequate space to set up your planting containers, potting soil, seeds and lights.

There are many types of containers that you can use for your starter containers. Yogurt cups, butter bowls, pudding cups and egg cartons all make great containers to plant your vegetable seeds in. If you collect these containers all year long, by the time planting season comes you should have plenty. You will need to punch a few small holes in the bottom for drainage. You can use any large flat pan to set the pots in. This way when you water them, the excess will drain out and prevent your seeds from staying too wet.

Indoor grow lights are essential to help your plants get enough light. When the seeds are planted, it could very well still be cold weather and you can not always count on enough sunlight. Grow lights will allow you to give your seeds the best start. You should use caution with grow lights so that your seeds do not sprout up too quickly because they could be leggy and have weaker stems than a plant that grows perhaps a little slower. Plant your sets in your ready ground at the time suggested on your seed packs.
