The University was established in the year 2003 at Dehradun with a special act of state legislature in Uttarakhand. It is one of its kinds in India and Asia. Within a span of 8 years the University has earned a good reputation in the education, research and core industries like energy, petroleum.

The University received grants and accreditations from the Universities Grants Commission, National Assessments and Accreditation Council, International Standards Organization, The Energy Institute of the United Kingdom, etc.

The University offers programs in the streams of Engineering, Management, Legal Studies, etc.
