Increasing Employee Morale By Sharing Some Fun, And Some Ice Cream!

By:

In tough economic times employee morale can really take a beating. Recognition is one of the most cost-effect ways you can maintain and even improve morale.

"Recession or no recession, if employees believe that they are not being treated fairly, they will be unhappy with their current employer. The top (3) reasons cited by employees who were looking for other jobs were 1) not being paid enough 2) lack of career development opportunities 3) insufficient recognition."

Effective employee recognition will...

- Increase productivity
- Improve engagement
- Reduce turnover and on-boarding expense
- Increase communication
- Reduce errors and complaints
- Increase sales
- Improve safety

This all sounds simple and great, but when does recognition produce these kinds of results?

You get results when employees genuinely feel valued. The "Make Their Day" approach to employee recognition is based on years of research into what makes recognition meaningful.

The current economy should not convince you that there is nothing you can do. Well executed employee recognition produces results, even with:

- a very limited budget,
- practically no time to implement

Generally an annual event, the staff-appreciation day may include hosting an ice cream social where managers make sundaes for their subordinates or administering a party in the company common area or local ice cream parlor. It's just a matter of deciding what your company wants to do.

I know in Massachusetts there are ice cream shops that can cater a party, deliver the ice cream and supplies to your office or host a party right at the shop. Each option has its advantages depending on your budget and how involved you want to get in "serving" your employees on their special day. When the economy is suffering and taking a toll on your business, it is more important to continue to recognize employees without breaking the bank. Ice cream parties can be tailored to fit any budget from $4-$6 per person to $8-$10 and can be as private or as public as you would like.

An ice cream party is such a great idea because it is adaptable. Everyone likes ice cream and there are seemingly endless flavor and topping combinations as well as options for people on a special diet. No matter what kind of party you choose to have, you will always have to decide what to serve. Why not choose an option that is fun and nearly universal for all taste buds?
