Increased In Australian Work Visas Application Arises

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) of Australia has recently announced in the news that the 457 Visa Program has recorded its strongest year since the global financial crisis.

The full title of this subclass of visa isTemporary Business (Long Stay) - Standard Business Sponsorship (Subclass 457).
This is a temporary visa that allows entry toAustraliafor up to four years. This is the biggest demand for 457 work visas since the Worldwide financial crisis of 2008. This is due to increased demand from a strong Australian economy. There were 4200 visa applications in April 2011. The total for the years is 42 872 which is 4000 higher that the total number of visas for the year 2009-10. Primary visa grants are 37 percent higher than during the same period last year.
The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has said that the 457 visa has been important to employers particularly in the construction and mining industry to bring in badly needed skilled workers to Australia.
"The increase can be attributed to an improved economic environment and increasing employer demand for overseas workers to fill skills vacancies."
"There have also been upward monthly trends in application rates, strong year-on-year growth in the grant rate, strong jobs growth as shown by the ANZ Job Index and continued low unemployment."
"The number of trade workers and technicians coming to Australia under the 457 program is up about 70 per cent compared with the same period last year."
"In this program year to April, there were 4731 visas approved for construction workers and 2777 visas approved for mining workers, which represents an increase of 79 per cent and 43 per cent respectively."
Australian immigration has been successful in speeding up the processing of Australian 457 work visas. The processing time is now 30 percent lower than five years ago. The average processing time is now 22 days. Australia immigration intends to halve the processing time for 457 visa processing when the new 457 visa processing centre in Brisbane opens.
