Include A Photo Canvas In Your Interior Design Plans

The spring has arrived and with it come thoughts of clearing out the detritus that has accumulated over the winter months and giving the house a much needed clean. Many people will be thinking of decorating; sanding down door and window frames, painting doors and walls or fixing all those little jobs that have been put off until the weather gets better. But what else can be done to improve the look and feel of a house when all the DIY is done?

Accessorising around the home is one of the easiest ways to turn a dull or ordinary room into something a bit more special. It's all very well having a great space that's well decorated, with thought and care put into the colour scheme but if you don't fill a living space with the right objects or you don't light it correctly then all your hard work could be for nothing. A well placed spotlight, an original photo canvas or the right piece of furniture can make all the difference.

A picture paints a thousand words - Hanging a photo canvas that has been designed entirely by yourself is one of the easiest ways of stamping you personality on a living space and adding a bit of creativity to any room in your house. A photo canvas can add focus to a room, create the illusion of space or light and create a talking point that will keep house guests amused and entertained for hours. It's hardly surprising then that hanging a photo canvas is now more popular than ever in the world of interior design.

A photo canvas is a flexible, cost effective way of improving any room in the house. The fact that they come in various sizes, from small to very large means that they can be created with a specific place in mind. So a small photo canvas may benefit a smaller space like a corridor or a small office or study and a much large photo canvas can be placed in a prominent position in a living or dining room. Either way the effect can be dramatic and stylish.

Perhaps the best thing about putting a photo canvas in your home though, is that it lets you indulge your creative side and stamp your personality on a space very easily. Many places that offer photo canvas printing also let you add effects to your image so not only can you display your finest photographs you can also create your very own modern masterpiece. From a Warhol style pop art effect to an atmospheric black and white style there is something to suit any image.

Once you've hung your photo canvas masterpiece it's worth spending some time getting the lighting right. Rather than one very bright light in the middle of a room think a bit more creatively about lighting. A series of smaller wall mounted spotlights are infinitely more interesting than a single bulb and can give the illusion of warmth and extra space. Free standing lamps are also effective and come in all shapes and sizes; the tall, retro look is very popular right now.

When it comes to furniture the Scandinavians are hard to beat. I'm not necessarily talking about the well known furniture stores that have dragged many UK homes into the 21st century, although they are worth a look, I'm talking more about the Scandinavian attitude towards furniture. Buying one expensive well made and well designed piece of furniture, a chair for example, makes much more sense in the long term than buying lots of cheap furniture that will only last a few months because it's either broken or fallen out of fashion.
